AIR IS LIFE.
Our Navajo Leaders Have the Power to Reduce Methane Pollution.
The oil and gas industry is polluting the atmosphere with methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Oil and gas waste and pollution deprive the Navajo Nation of millions of dollars in revenue while polluting the air and threatening the health of our communities and climate.
In a victory for tribal sovereignty, our climate, and the health of our communities, Navajo Nation EPA recently established Minor Source Program Regulations, a critical first step toward obtaining full oversight over emissions from tribally-owned oil and gas resources.
By putting oil and gas operations on tribal lands under the Navajo Nation’s jurisdiction, Navajo Nation EPA can take action to protect the health of Navajo communities and reduce methane and air pollution.
